Memphis Red Sox at Little Rock, AR

The Memphis Red Sox were a professional Negro baseball team in the Negro American League. The team frequently played games in Little Rock, AR during the 1930s-1950s.


The Memphis Red Sox so frequently played games at Travelers Field in Little Rock that the Arkansas State Press called it Little Rock's "adopted team."1 Even the local white press admitted that the Red Sox were the "local favorites."2 Between about 1938-1959, Memphis played nearly 200 games in Little Rock, an average of about 9-10 per season.
