W.P. Feild

Image William Presley "W.P." Feild, born July 7th, 1854 in Danville,AR, was an amatuer baseball player for various Little Rock clubs, most notably the Accidentals. See the Feild Family.

W.P. was the oldest son of William Hume Feild, a Tennessee-born farmer and planter. Much like the others in his family, W.P. became a baseball enthusiast. By the time he was 15 in 1869, W.P. was appearing in games alongside his brother Ernest.

Continuing to play baseball throughout the 1870s, W.P. became a skilled player. In 1875, he earned a place on the Accidental Base Ball Club, the most accomplished Little Rock team of the era. In September, the Accidentals joined the Foul Flag Association and won the championship. As the best team in Little Rock, Feild and the Accidentals decided to test their luck and play the St. Louis Red Stockings in a series of two exhibition games. However, the Accidentals lost both games.

W.P. lived in Little Rock most of his life, playing baseball until at least 1883. On December 7th, 1881, he married Florence Bertrand Hunter and together they had five children. For many years, W.P. worked as a U.S. circuit clerk, and in his later years, a planter. He died in 1932.
