Excerpts

"Among the pitchers already signed by [Little Rock Manager Mike Finn] is Argus J. Hamilton of Desoto, Ark. Some time ago the Gazette mentioned that communication had been received from Mr. Hamilton, and while Mr. Finn was in Little Rock he wrote to the pitcher, offering him a position at stated terms. Yesterday a letter was received from him accepting the offer, and he will report here when needed. He wrote as follows: "Arkansas is my native state, and I will put forth every effort to bring her to the front with my pitching." Mr. Hamilton has a good reputation as a pitcher, and Little Rock is indeed fortunate to secure his services. Last season he was signed by Manager Manning of the Kansas City Blues, but played only a short while when he became ill and was compelled to retire from the diamond. He was one of the fastest pitchers in that league. During the past fall and winter he has been teaching school at Vesta, in Franklin county."8
