"Russellville, June 23 - (AP) - Carl Weatherton, baseball and football star at Arkansas Tech, has signed a contract with the Detroit Tigers. He was assigned to the Helena team of the Cotton States League as a third baseman."4

"Carl Weatherton died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at the Boswell Hospital in Sun City, Ariz. He was 74 years old. Mr. Weatherton was born in Spardra [sic], Ark. He moved to Arizona from Arkansas in 1953. He was a teacher and coach in the Winslow Public Schools for 32 years, retiring in 1985. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Mason's, Shriner's and Elk's Club. He is survived by his wife, Gail Weatherton of Peoria; daughter Cheryl Ingram; son Jeff Weatherton and three grandchildren. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today, March 27, at Sunland Lakeside Chapel in Sun City. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Boswell Hospital, 10401 W. Thunderbird, Sun City, AZ 85351."5
