Biography

Edwards died on April 24th, 1975 and was buried in Roselawn Cemetery in Fort Smith, AR.2

"Fort Smith - Delmar T. Edwards, aged 50, of Fort Smith, president of the Edwards Funeral Home here since 1960, died Thursday. He had been in the funeral home business since 1947 and became head of the firm when his father, Delmar D. Edwards died. Mr. Edwards was a former baseball player for the St. Louis Cardinals and had been active in sports programs in this section of the state. He was past commissioner of the Fort Smith churches baseball program. He was a graduate of the Fort Smith High School and later graduated from the Dallas Institute of Mortuary in 1948. Mr. Edwards had serviced of president of the Club of Burial Associations, a state organization. He was a Methodist, a director in the Fort Smith Chamber of Commerce, City chairman for the March of Dimes, a director for the Committee of 21, United Fund; a director of Standard Federal Savings and Loan Association, a Mason, a member of the Western Arkansas Consistory and the Shriners. He was a World War II veteran. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Bugg Edwards; two sons, Delmar (Butch) II and James Edwards, both of Fort Smith; a daughter, Miss Judy Edwards of Fort Smith, and his mother, Mrs. Hazel Edwards of Fort Smith. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Edwards Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery. Memorials have been established at the First United Methodist Church at Fort Smith and the American Cancer Society."3
