Frank Shipley

Robert Franklin Shipley, born June 1st, 1902 in Conway, AR, was a professional baseball player from 1925-1929.

Biography

Shipley pitched for a number of teams in Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana in the latter half of the 1920s, including Texarkana in 1925, Oklahoma City in 1928, and Shreveport and Monroe in 1929.

Shipley died on September 12th, 1977.1 He was buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka, OK.2

"Robert Frank Shipley, 75, of Wewoka, Okla., formerly of Greenbrier (Faulkner County), a former baseball player in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization died Monday. He pitched for farm at among others, McAllen, Tex, and Broken Bow, Okla. A veteran of World War II, he also had been a policeman at Ada, Okla. He was a son of the late David and Sally Belote Shipley of Greenbrier. Survivors are his wife Mrs. Helen Koon Shipley, a son, Bob Shipley of California, and a sister, Mrs. Minnie Padgett of Jacksonville. Funeral and burial will be held Wednesday at Wewoka."3
