George Harper

George Washington Harper , born June 24th, 1892 in Arlington, KY was a professional baseball player from 1913-1936. He later lived in various south Arkansas cities.


Harper was the son of John and Martha Harper and grew up near Paducah, KY.1 He moved from Kentucky to Fordyce, Ark., at about age 18.2 He lived most of the rest of his life in McNeil, AR.3


"Born on a farm near Arlington, KY., George tilled the soil until he was 18 years old and then moved to Fordyce, Ark. He had got about all the education he could out of the little red school house and wanted to go to high school, which he did. He played baseball and football at Fordyce High and in the spring of 1913 went with the high school team to Paris, Tex., to play a team of Texas-Oklahoma League players."4
