Excerpts

"Springfield, Mo., baseball fans, augmented by a large delegation from Auron, Mo., honored Jake Drake, the big Fayetteville boy, hurling for the Cardinals of the Western Association and he won over the Muskogee Reds Wednesday night, 8 to 4, allowing but seven hits. Drake formerly hurled in the Arkansas-Missouri League for Fayetteville, and, although he had a world of "stuff," was never able to get into the winning column with any regularity. He hurled some sensational games for the independent Aurora team last season and early this spring was signed by Springfield, where he has already won six games this season. Drake recently received credit for victories in both games of a double-header with Joplin, hurling a complete game in the opener and going in as a relief pitcher in the night-cap. One of his recent losses was to Fort Smith, but the Giants made only two earned runs. Jake is the son of Mrs. and Mrs. J.J. Drake of Baldwin."5

"Jake J. Drake, Jr., and Miss Mary Leona Mitchell, both of Fayetteville, were married yesterday by Rev. E M. Logue. Mr. Drake is a professional baseball player in the St. Louis Cardinals organization. He hurled for Fayetteville in the Arkansas-Missouri League in 1934."6
