Samuel Lamitina, born June 9th, 1920 in Rock Glen, NY, was a professional baseball player from 1939-1955. He lived his later years in Newport, AR.

Biography

Lamitina was chosen for the Kitty League Hall of Fame in 2005.

Lamitina died on September 17th, 1965 in Newport, AR.1 He was buried in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Newport.2

"Newport — A Requiem Mass was offered in St. Cecilia's Church here September 17 for Samuel Lamitina, 45, a restaurant owner and insurance agent who died September 14 after a long illness. Celebrant of the Mass was the pastor, The Rev. Herman P. Strassle, who also preached the sermon and offered the committal prayers in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Mr. Lamitina, whose home was at 902 Malcome Avenue, Newport, was a former professional baseball player and a World War II Navy veteran. He was born in rock Glen, N.Y., June 9, 1920. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jane Lamitina of Newport; two sons, Sam Lamitina, Jr., of Jackson, Tenn., and Philip Clyde Lamitina, a student at Arkansas State, Jonesboro; a daughter, Linda Jane of Newport; his mother, Mrs. Mary Lamitina of Warsaw, N.Y.; a sister, Mrs. Josephine Johnson of Leroy, N.Y., and six brothers, joe and Jim Lamitina of Canton, OH, Ross Lamitina of Philadelphia, Mike Lamitina of Lime Lake, N.Y., Angelo Lamitina of Gainsville, N.Y., and Frank Lamitina of Warsaw, N.Y. Pallbearers were Buddy Black, Chester Rutledge, J. T. Landrum, Dorse White, Leon Rutledge, Bob Cox, Bobby Fortune and Tom Collier."3
