Argenta Grays (1910-1911)

The Argenta Grays were a Negro baseball team in Argenta, AR, from 1910-1911. Games were played at Faucette Park.

History

The 1911 team was managed by Harvey A. Williams.

The team likely originated as the 1909 Little Rock Tigers, who played home games at Faucette Park in Argenta because of the lack of ballparks available in Little Rock.

Excerpts

"The Grays, of Argenta, Ark., are this season under the management of Harvey Williams. With beautiful weather and plenty of sunshine, Manager Williams has permitted his bunch of baseball tossers to act around the diamond dialy at Faucette Park. Every one seems to be very much pleased with the team. Our first game was with Memphis, April 10, 11, 12, then leaving to play the fast Kloethe Reds of Hot Springs. After returning home dates are open to all comers. Captain Croxton, late of the New York Cuban Giants, with his howling aggregation is capable of meeting any first class club. With such men as Billy Wiley, Young, Palmer, Love and McCray and others, we will clean of the south. All mail orders will be received and given prompt attention at 301-303 E. Washington Ave., Harvey A. Williams, Mgr."44
