Alphonzo Bland

Alphonzo Bland, born November 27th, 19081 in Arkansas, was a Negro baseball player from about 1936-1941.

Biography

Bland was the son of Phillip Bland and Effie (nee McFerrin) Bland. He grew up in Blackwell, AR.2

Bland, a catcher, played with the Tulsa Black Oilers in 1936,3 Morrilton Sluggers in 1938 and the Cincinnati Buckeyes in 1940. He also briefly appeared with the Birmingham Black Barons of the Negro American League in May 1941, going 1-5 in two recorded game.

Bland died on January 8th, 19764 and was buried in Washington Park Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.5
