Bob Bandy

Robert Alexander Bandy ("Smiling Bob"), born May 31st, 1882 in Batesville, AR,1 was a professional baseball player from 1906-1911.

Biography

Bandy was a native of Batesville, AR,2 but later lived in Newport, AR.His career began in the 1906 Arkansas-Texas League3 with Pine Bluff.4 In the playoffs, he threw a no-hitter against Hot Springs. The following springs, he was given a tryout with Little Rock of the Southern Association, but was farmed to Oklahoma City at the start of the season. He played the next four seasons in Oklahoma City, winning twenty games games in 1907 and 1908. In 1909, he won 18 games for Oklahoma City in the Texas League. In 1911, he played the final season of his career with Yazoo City in the Cotton States League. Afterward, he played in the Little Rock City League.

Bandy lived most of post-baseball life near Little Rock. He died on October 14th, 1947 in Pulaski County, AR.5 He was buried in Roselawn Memorial Park in Little Rock, AR.6
