" Dean Friend , 82, of Royal, died Thursday, March 26, 2015. He was born on Oct. 27, 1932, in Hot Springs, the son of Fred and Carmel Friend . On Oct. 24, 2004, he was married to Carolyn Lanette Martin. He was preceded in death by his wives, Doris Parnell and Deborah Molsby; and his parents. Dean was a professional musician since the age of three, and he was a semi-pro baseball player for the Chicago White Sox. He served eight years in the U.S. Navy and six years in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. Dean retired from the Arkansas State Police and worked as a bus driver at Lake Hamilton School. He was a member of Social Hill Missionary Baptist Church, the Walnut Hill Masonic Lodge, the Mazarn Deer Club and the Arkansas State Police Retiree Association. He is survived by his wife, Carol Martin, of Royal; two daughters, Sharon Mulder and her significant other, Garrett Nicholas, and Cindy Farmer; two stepsons, Ray Summit and Lee Summit; four grandchildren, Rick Ilenfeld, Gregory Maynard, Casey Maynard and Kati Condry; one stepgranddaughter, Courtney Summit; three great-grandchildren, Gage Hollowell, Allie Ilenfeld and Avery Ilenfeld; the mother of his children, Jane Friend ; numerous extended family members and special friends. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date by Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs."3
