"Franklin George Matthews, age 91, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, in The Seeds of Love private care facility in Greenbrier. Born Feb. 2, 1922, in Happy Valley, he was the son of W.T. and Bertha (Griffin) Matthews. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He spent three years in the Army during WWII and was honorably discharged. He was drafted at the age of 17 to play baseball for the Saginaw Bears in Michigan. He had a profound love for farm life; he raised cattle and kept a garden at his home in Enola. He was a deacon and long time member of Enola Missionary Baptist Church and was most recently a member of Marcus Hill Baptist Church. The family would like to express thanks and appreciation to Doris Hutchins and staff of Odyssey Hospice; Debbie Chapman, Benson, and staff at Seeds of Love Private Care and Dr. Tyrone Lee for their loving care. He is survived by his wife, Pauline (Luke) Matthews of Enola; daughter, Deb (Bruce) Harris of Enola; son, Don Matthews of Damascus; grandchildren, Lance (Monica) Wright of Conway and Stacy Matthews of North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Landon Wright and Avery Matthews; brother, Jackie (Pat) Matthews of Maumelle; sisters, Shirley (Harold) Smith of Conway, and Joy Tucker of St. Louis, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gordon, Leister, Eldridge and Eldon Matthews; and sisters, Pauline and Willie Dean Matthews. Funeral Services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home (801 8th Ave.) in Conway, with the Rev. Ken Jordan and the Rev. Jesse Thomas officiating, and Don Matthews, Lance Wright, Bruce Harris, Kurt Floyd, Robbie Thomas and Jackie Matthews as pallbearers. Interment will follow at Marcus Hill Cemetery near Enola. Visitation will be from noon until time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home."5
