"Roy Cork , age 76 of Marietta, died Friday, April 20, 2001. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene Hunt officiating. Interment will follow in Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta. Born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Mr. Cork had lived in Cobb County since 1964. He was of the Methodist faith. He graduated from Arkansas State Teachers College where he lettered in football, baseball and track. He was a decorated Army Veteran of WW II (Omaha Beach and D-Day). He retired as a machinist from Lockheed after 22 years of service and was a 32nd degree Mason. He was a member of the Meyerhardt Masonic Lodge in Kennesaw. After his college graduation, he taught at Newton County High School. He taught history, English as well as coaching football and basketball. After teaching and coaching high school he became a scout for the Boston Red Sox. Survivors include three daughters, Angelia Spence and son-in-law Patrick, Marietta, GA; Pamela Meredith and son-in-law, Len, Summerdale, AL; and Joey Cork , Summerdale, AL; son, Roy Cork II and daughter-in-law Lee, Marietta, GA; sister, Margene Scott, Roswell, GA; brother, Gordon Cork , Smyrna, GA; four grandchildren, Ryan Spence, Emalyn Cork , Bobby Cork and Phillip Cork and nieces and nephews. Contributions can be made to the Haven House Hospice, 5411 Northland Dr., Atlanta, GA., 30342. Pallbearers for the service will be Robert Casey, Eddie Cobb, Stan McPhail, David Campbell, Greg James, Russell Gasaway and Doug Mosley. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta."3
