Grady was born September 26, 1915, in Needs Creek, Arkansas, to William Mathis Mills, Jr. and Susan Vance Whitaker Mills. He married Mary Elizabeth Love on April 3, 1937. Grady was the 20th of 21 children. Grady has been the sole survivor since the late 1990?s. He came from a strong religious heritage and often said that he should have been a preacher. Preceding him in death were his parents, all his siblings, his wife, and infant daughter, and his son-in-law, William Fant. Survivors include two daughters: Sara Margaret and Herman Barnett of Texarkana and Charlotte Mills Fant of Conway; 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren: Greg, Leigh and Bentleigh Barnett of Dallas and Lori, Craig, Luke, and Grady Mueller of Texarkana; plus a host of special nieces, nephews, and friends. Grady was a member of the Arkansas First United Methodist Church and the Wadley Auxiliary. He was retired from Federal Compress and Warehouse Company, Inc., and had worked for the company in Oceola, AR, Sikeston and Lilbourn, MO, and also in Ashdown, Searcy, and England, AR, and Texarkana, TX. He was a former member of the Administrative Board of the Ashdown FUMC; a former member of the Masonic Lodge, and former member and officer of the Ashdown Rotary Club. Even though he never had any sons of his own, he was a Boy Scout Leader in Ashdown. He played minor league baseball for the St. Louis Browns organization prior to a career-ending injury in the late 1930?s. He continued to love baseball and was eager to share his expertise with any young boys and girls who wanted to play. Grady was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. He also supported the Arkansas Razorbacks in all their activities. Grady was a ?people? person and loved everyone. He had a great love for dogs and cats and they all loved him. His greatest joys were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and all their friends. Grady enjoyed gardening delicious vegetables and beautiful roses. He was a quail hunter who had the privilege to share his love for the outdoors with several wonderful friends and his great pointer birddogs during many years of hunting. He liked to fish for crappie and spent many wonderful times on the lakes and rivers. Grady loved the outdoors and all of God?s creation.
