Hayse Spearman

Hayse "Lefty" Spearman, born July 8th, 1908 in Arkadelphia, AR,1 2 was a Negro baseball player with the Butte Colored Giants from 1933-1939. He was the brother of Charles Spearman, Willie Spearman, Codie Spearman, Henry Spearman, and Clyde Spearman. See Spearman Family.

Biography

Spearman was the son of Iverson Spearman and Fannie (nee Phifer) Spearman grew up near Arkadelphia, AR.3 He lived much of his adult life in various northwestern cities including Butte, MT,4 Spokane, WA,5 and Pasco, WA.

Spearman played with the Butte Colored Giants from 1933-1935 and from 1938-1939. In 1942, Spearman played with the integrated Miners Union team in the Butte City League along with O'Dell Jackson.

Spearman died on October 28th, 1952 in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Pasco, WA6 and was buried in City View Cemetery in Pasco, WA.7 8
