"JAMES T. JAYNES , 78, of Little Rock, was born February 15, 1928 and passed away on November 8, 2006. An Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Jaynes served the United States as a paratrooper. He was one of the original members of Geyer Springs United Methodist Church. He was currently serving as chairman of the Trustees, and helped to establish the Upward Basketball program. He took to heart his vow to serve his church with his prayers, his presence, his gifts and his service. He was a graduate of Arkansas State Teacher's College, where he was a pitcher for the baseball team, and with the combined efforts of his teammates, took the State Championship for the years 1948, 1949, 1951. Upon graduation, he joined the Kitty League Baseball Organization and became a Union City, Tennessee Greyhound. He was offered contracts by the New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies, but chose to take a college degree instead. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a Master's in Public Health, returned to Little Rock and worked for the Arkansas State Health Department. He was instrumental in bringing the EMS system to Little Rock. Later, he was administrator for Riley's Oakhill Manor. He was a Razorback fan and ushered at the War Memorial Stadium games for over 35 years. He is survived by his wife, Norma Ennis-Jaynes, a son, Edward L. Jaynes, his wife, Lynnette B. Jaynes of Shreveport, La., a daughter, Elizabeth Jaynes Downes and her husband Dr. John M. Downes of Little Rock, a stepdaughter, Marcia M. Wilkinson, of Fordyce. He was blessed with grandchildren Katherine Jaynes, Thomas Jaynes Christina Downes, and Houston Downes. There will be visitation on Friday, November 10, 2006 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth, 5800 West 12th, Little Rock, Ark. (501) 661-9111. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 11, 2006 at 3 p.m. at Geyer Springs United Methodist Church with Rev. Deanna McCormick officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park."2
