"James “Jim” Jackson Price, age 85, of Grannis, Arkansas died Monday, July 29, 2013 at his home. He was born on Monday, August 1, 1927 to Asa Jackson and Alberta Branch Price in Vandervoort, Arkansas. Jim graduated from Vandervoort School and at the age of 16 attended college at SAU in Magnolia, Arkansas. At age 18, he was drafted into the army and stationed in the Aleutian Islands. Jim loved baseball and played semi-pro in 1949 in Mena and again in 1952. In 1950 when every Mother`s son dreamed of becoming a baseball player, Jim signed a professional baseball contract with the Shreveport Sports of the Texas League. He was assigned to the 1950 San Angelo Colts of the Longhorn League and played the following year with the Alexandria Aces of the Evangeline League. In 1953 he pitched a no Hitter for Burkburnett in the Texas Semi Pro State championships, striking out 18 batters. On his 80th birthday, he and his son and grandsons traveled to Alexandria, Louisiana to attend an Alexandria Aces game and Jim was given the honor of throwing out the first pitch. Jim worked in Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Oregon as a manager/bookkeeper for lumber companies. Jim and his wife, Louise owned / operated their own business in Arizona. They returned to Arkansas in 1970, where Jim worked as a truck driver for Lane Poultry and later Tyson. After retirement in 1994, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, gardening and of course baseball. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend and will be greatly missed by all. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a son Charles Edward Price. Jim is survived by his wife of 61 years Emma Louise Allen of Grannis, Arkansas; one son James J. Price Jr. of Little Rock; two daughters Pam Musgrave-Cannon and husband Randy of Brinkley, Arkansas and Tanya Mehran and husband, Mostafa of Greenbrier, Arkansas; one sister Peggy Ainsworth and husband, Len of Lubbock, Texas; four grandchildren Stacey Musgrave of Mena, Arkansas, Adam Musgrave of Little Rock, Arkansas, Patrick Mehran and wife, Kathleen of Maumelle, Arkansas and Samantha Mehran of Greenbrier, Arkansas; one great-grand daughter Mia Mehran of Maumelle, Arkansas; several cousins, nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Cove under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena. Visitation will be Friday, August 2, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena. Honorary pallbearers will be Buck Cureton, Bob Phillips, Reggie Saddler, Bill Barrett, Dale Wall, Jose Cordova, Bruce Cureton, Rex Johnson and Randy Cook. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made the Pleasant Grove Cemetery Fund, C/O Sharon Ricks, 160 East Barton, Cove, Arkansas 71937."4
