"Jerry Elmer Dean , 72, of Austin died Oct. 26, 2001, at Seton Medical Center in Austin. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper with graveside service at 1 p.m. Monday at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A native of Joiner, Ark., he lived in the Jasper area and was a former major league baseball player, a retired Lamar High School coach and a Korean War U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Jill Cook Dean of Austin; brother, James R. Dean of Jonesboro, Ark.; and sister, Betty Jo Green of Jonesboro."2
