
Biography
Lewis was the son of Lorenzo D. Lewis and Lizzie (nee Clark) Lewis and grew up in St. Landry Parish, La.5
Lewis was given a tryout with Shreveport in the spring of 1928, but was sent to Monroe in the Cotton States League instead.6
Lewis died in July 14th, 1977.7 8 He was buried in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Norphlet, AR.9

"Jimmie Hurshel Lewis, aged 74, of Norphlet (Union County) died Thursday. He was a retired employee of Mobil Oil Company and a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Edna Fisher Lewis; a son, Ardie Dale Lewis of Norphlet; a daughter, Mrs. Delores Myers of Bogalusa, La,; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Carpenter of Honea, S.C., and Mrs. Lelie Burney of Vivian, La., and five grandchildren. Funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church of Norphlet by Rev. Tony Lewis and Rev. V.E. Bland. Burial will be in West Haven Memorial Gardens near El Dorado by Young Funeral Home."10
