Jonas Arthur "Joe" Berry, born December 16th, 1904 in Huntsville, AR, was a professional baseball player from 1927-1951, playing in the major leagues from 1942-1946.
Biography
Berry's father Jonas Gilbert Berry was the longtime sheriff of Madison County, AR.
Berry made his major league debut late in life at age 37. His entire major league career was as a relief pitcher, and in 1944, he led the American League in saves.
Joe was the uncle of Clyde Berry, longtime baseball coach at Henderson State University and namesake of Clyde Berry Field (1).
