Carl Joseph Porter, born December 30th, 1932 in Lake City, AR,1
was a professional baseball player from 1952 to 1960. He was the son of Carl Porter2
and the nephew of Robert Porter.

"San Francisco, Calif. — Joe Porter, prize first baseman from Richmond High School, was signed by the Cleveland Indians for what was believed to be a substantial bonus. Cleveland Scout Ed (Ernie) Moniz negotiated the deal with Porter's father. Although the size of the bonus was not disclosed, the young left-hander, who stands six feet, three inches and weighs 190 pounds, had participated in tryout schools with San Francisco and Oakland and refused to sign with either club for a bonus of less than $30,000. The 19-year-old rookie left immediately after signing for the Indians' camp at Daytona Beach, Fla. It is believed that he will be returned to Bakersfield in the California League."3
