John Myers

John Leslie Myers Jr., born February 12th, 1928 in Des Arc, AR1 , was a professional baseball player from 1947-1952. He was the brother of James Myers.

Myers was the son of John Leslie Myers Sr. and Thelma Jewel Myers2 . He married Marjorie Brashears on May 20th, 1944 in near Beebe, AR3 .

Myers died on November 25th, 1952 at only 24. He was buried in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, LA4 .

"John Leslie Myers Jr. Blond-haired 20-year old Myers, hails from Des Arc, Arkansas. He went to school in his home town and to Beebe, Arkansas for High School, where he played 3 years baseball and four years of football and basketball. In 1945 he hurled for Des Arc Red Sox in the Prairie League and again in 1946. He went to spring training with the Memphis Chicks in 1947 and was sent to Greenville. With the Bucks last season he won 18 and lost 11. This is his second season in professional baseball."5

"John Leslie Myers, pitcher of Monroe (Cotton States), died at the Missouri Pacific Hospital in Little Rock, Ark., November 25, following an illness of several weeks. He was employed by the Missouri Pacific Railroad during the off-season. Born in Des Arc, Ark., February 12th, 1928, Myers was signed by Gadsden late in 1946. He was with Greenville, Miss., in 1947, Abbeville, El Dorado and Gladewater in 1948, Greenville, Tex., and Lubbock in 1949, Donna-Weslaco in 1950 and Monroe in 1951 and 1952. He won seven and lost four game with Monroe in the Cotton States the past season."6
