John P. Baird

John Peter Baird, born in June 30th, 18771 in Morrow County, OH2 , was a minor league baseball executive. He was the president of the Little Rock Travelers from 1943-1956. He was the uncle of John H. Baird.

Biography

John P. Baird moved to Little Rock circa 19003 and worked a variety of jobs, including bookkeeper, secretary, and cashier before becoming the manager of Little Rock Advertising and Posting Company. In 1944, he and Ray Winder purchased Roy Thompson's interest in the Little Rock Travelers and assumed control of the club. He was elected president of the club and remained as such until his death on August 4th, 1956 in Little Rock. He was buried in Oakland Cemetery in Little Rock.4 His nephew John H. Baird was elected to succeed him as president.
