Johnson was the son of Nathan Johnson and Louvonia (nee Racy) Johnson. He grew up in Crossett, AR.4
Johnson played with the Minneapolis-St. Paul Gophers5 , Newark Eagles, New York Black Yankees, Birmingham Black Barons 6 , Memphis Red Sox, Los Angeles White Sox, Detroit Senators7 , and the Cincinnati Crescents8
