Nip Carroll

Cornelius M. "Neal" "Nip" Carroll, born about 1878 in North Carolina,1 was a professional baseball player in 1909.

Biography

Carroll may have played with Monroe in the Cotton States League from 1907-1908.

Carroll played with the Fort Smith Soldiers in the 1909 Arkansas State League and the Marianna Brickeys in the 1909 Northeast Arkansas League.

Carroll died on May 24th, 1926 in Memphis, TN.2 He was buried in Roselawn Memorial Park in Little Rock, AR.3

""Nip" Carroll, the well-known and hard-working amatuer player of this city, has signed with Augusta in the Eastern Arkansas League and will appear with that team in their first game this afternoon. His position will be behind the bat. The Eastern Arkansas League originally consisted of but four clubs, but August and Friar's Point, Miss., were recently admitted. Carroll is fast enough for that league and his friends with for him an enviable record."4

""Nip" Carroll, a Little Rock boy who is helping out in the backstopping department of the Fort Smith team, was given a hand when he got in the game in the fourth. He responded by getting a hit and a walk in two times at bat."5

"C. M. (“Nip”) Carroll, aged 46, special agent for the Missouri Pacific railroad, died at a Memphis hospital at 8:30 p. m. Monday. Mr. Carroll was on duty on a freight train when stricken with heart disease. He was hurried to Memphis. He was a native of North Carolina, but had been a resident of Little Rock the past 35 years. He is survived by his wife, a son, Neal Carroll, and a brother, Lacy Carroll, all of Little Rock. He was a member of the A. O. U. W. The body arrived here at 1 o’clock yesterday and was removed to the family home, 212 Rice street, by Healey and Roth. Funeral services will be held illegible at 10 o’clock this morning in charge of the Rev. H. G. Knowles, the Rev. Calvin Welch and the Rev. J. F. Ross. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be: Cleve Dunn, B. W. Hawkins, J. E. Cheek, F. R. Frioleau, J. S. James, J. A. Brooks, J. F. Braham and G. H. Henneberger."6
