"Rex Carrick Pearce, second baseman for the [Odessa] Oilers hails from Cotton Plant, Ark. Rex, probably the outstanding secondsacker in the league, lettered in football and basketball at the University of Mississippi before discarding the books for the books for the diamond. The only baseball experience Pearce had before joining the Oilers was 15 games played with Little Rock in 194[6]. He never played semi-pro baseball."2
