"Russell Brooks May, 70, of Sheridan, a retired timber worker, died Tuesday. Mr May was a member of Lost Creek Missionary Baptist Church and was a Mason. He played professional baseball from 1936 to 1944 for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Detroit Tigers. He was president of the Marlow Fifth Sunday Gospel Singers. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Aileen Kemp May; a stepson, Phillip Walters of Prattsville; three sisters, Mrs. Lee Ashcraft of Altheimer, Mrs. Eldia Hamilton of North Little Rock and Mrs. Ruby Rubow of Sheridan, and four grandchildren. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lost creek Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Cross Roads Cemetery by Buie Funeral Home."4
