Sam Billingsley

Samuel Billingsley Jr., born February 8th, 1925 in Southland, AR, was a Negro baseball player. He was the cousin of John Billingsley.

Biography

Billingsley was the son of Samuel Billingsley Sr. and Janie (nee Camp) Billinglsey. He grew up near Lexa, AR.1

Billingsley was given a tryout with the Memphis Red Sox in 1950 after attending the Negro Delta Baseball School operated by Memphis manager Homer Curry in Greenville, Miss.2 It's not apparent that he made the team. He later played amatuer baseball in Milwaukee, WI3 where he was batting champion.4

Billingsley died on April 8th, 2003. He was buried in Graceland Cemetery in Milwaukee.5
