Excerpts

"Steve S. Sitek "Mr. Si," Monday evening, Oct. 10, 2005, went to meet our lord, his two sons and his past baseball friends on that big baseball field in the sky. In our hearts we know he has already organized his own heavenly baseball team that he will now be able to play and coach, a game that will never have to end. Steve was born Oct. 29, 1914, in St. Louis, Mo., to Andrew and Catherine Sitek . He is predeceased by his two sons, Bobby Sitek and Stevie Sitek , three sisters Mary Sitek , Frances Flak and Julie Traska. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Modean; one daughter, Joan Robbins and son-in-law Darrell of Hot Springs; four sisters, Helen Sitek , Annie Serverian, Virginia and her husband Art Schenk, and Sophie Moore, all of St. Louis, Mo.; two granddaughters, Donna Thomas and her husband Mark, and Shelly Lackie and her husband Lynn, all of Hot Springs; one grandson, Doug Robbins of Hot Springs; two great-granddaughters, Jeanna Thomas and Camella Robbins, both of Hot Springs; and two great-grandsons, Andy Thomas of Hot Springs and Taylor Robbins of Orlando, Fla.: many nieces, nephews, greatnieces and great-nephews. While growing up in St. Louis, Mo., Steve spent every spare minute watching the St. Louis Cardinals practice and play the game of baseball , even occasionally skipping school so he wouldn't miss a game. The sport ran through his veins from a very early age with dreams of becoming a professional baseball player. Steve 's dream came true but was cut short with a call from Uncle Sam and the United States Army. After moving to Hot Springs with his wife and two children, he and his wife were in hotel management and he was a scout for several professional baseball teams. Steve 's love and passion for the game of baseball was still so strong it would lead him to the Hot Springs Boy's Club. He gave more than 50 years of his life and thousands of hours as a volunteer coach and mentor to any and boy hundreds and hundreds, that wanted to play the game of baseball . Year after year all throughout the spring, his voice would echo throughout the park and could be heard above all others. We will be celebrating his life with services to be held Friday, 2 p.m., at Hot Springs Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Frank Glidewell officiating with burial at Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Andy Thomas, Jeanna Thomas, David Stone, Sandy Dean, Joe McClard and Van Glidewell. Honorary pallbearers are Kevin Dean, Paul Dean Jr., Ronnie Harris, J.D. McClard, Phillip McClard, Scott McClard, Ernie Presock, Dr. Thomas Lemay, Larry Chase and all of the young men and boys "Mr. Si" had the privilege, pleasure and opportunity to coach."3
