"Another Arkansan on the team [Greenville], 22-year old Tommy bats from the left side and throws from the right. He is 5.9 tall and weighs 165. Boyd’s home is in Des Arc, Ark., where he played two seasons at third base for Des Arc’s entry in the Prairie League and hit a healthy .425 last season. Tommy was born in England, Ark., and played in the England High School backfield in football and short and second on the baseball team. He went to Arkansas State Teachers College at Conway in 1942 and early 1943. Tommy served 37 months in the Navy. This is his first professional experience with Greenville."3
"THOMAS SLOAN BOYD, of Little Rock, Ark., died June 23, 1994. He was born Dec. 20, 1925 in England, Ark., to Eagle and Johnnie Boyd and was reared in Lonoke County. He attended Arkansas State Teacher's College (UCA) in Conway, Ark. He served in World War II and was a veteran of the Navy. Upon returning from World War II, he played professional baseball in the Cotton State's League. In his professional life he was a farm manager, an implement and automotive salesman, and completed his career at Little Rock Shade and Blind, where he was in partnership with his wife, Ann Boyd. He was a member of the Lutheran Church. Tom was an avid sportsman who took great pride in all athletic endeavors. He was a friend to all children and loved playing with his grandchildren. He most loved to cook for his family and friends. His specialty, chocolate chip cookies, will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Johnnie and Eagle Boyd; his sister, Juanita B. Singleton; his brother, Eagle Boyd, Jr.; his son, Thomas Sloan Boyd, Jr.; and his stepson, James Randall Holland. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Ann Boyd. Their marriage was one of love and commitment. He is survived by his sister, Reba B. Pyland of Ruston, La.; his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Don Goldsby of Pangburn, Ark.; his son, Ronald A. Boyd and his wife, Debbie of Mansfield, Texas; his daughter, CeCe Blackwell and her husband, Paul, of Wabbaseka, Ark.; his son, Randall C. Boyd and his wife, Ginger, Southlake, Texas; his daughter-in-law, Rose Boyd, Verona, N.J.; his stepson, Dr. Jay Holland and his wife, Margaret, of Little Rock, Ark.; his nephews, Gary Goldsby of Little Rock, Ark., and Boyd Goldsby of Ft. Benning, Ga. In addition, his grandchildren he loved so well, Thomas S. Boyd III, Katy Boyd, Suzy Boyd, Cody Vandeventer, Wesley Holcomb, Ashley Nicole Boyd, Emily Holland, Ashley Holland, Katie Holland, and Jennifer Holland; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty and Bill Ramsey of North Little Rock, Ark; sisters-in-law, Aileen Boyd of Hazen, Ark., and Lynn Robinson of Little Rock, Ark.; brother-in-law, James Swain of England. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. today at Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth. Funeral will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, June 27, 1994, in Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church in Little Rock, Ark."4
