"James Vernon Rudy , 87, of Conway, died June 18, 2001, at his home. Born December 24, 1913, in Sharp County, he was a son of the late William B. Rudy and Myrtle Fisher Rudy. He was reared at Smithville (Lawrence County). He was a graduate of Sloan Hendrix Academy at Imboden (Lawrence County). He also attended Arkansas State College and Arkansas Technical College. He served in the Army for 42 months in North Africa, Italy and France during World War II. After his military service, he went to work for the Arkansas State Police. In 1950, he went to work for the Cotton Belt Railroad in the signal department and retired as a signal inspector in 1982. He was a member of First Baptist Church at Pine Bluff. His hobbies included, gardening, hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel R. Baker and Mary R. Applen. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Anna Mary Johnson Rudy, whom he married November 30, 1947, at Pine Bluff; three daughters, Judith Ann Jones of Germantown, Tennessee, Cynthia Jane Rudy of Maumelle and Beth Minto of Sumter, South Carolina; one sister, Helen Rudy of Smithville; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors with the Rev. Gordon Topping officiating. Burial will be in Arkansas Veterans State Cemetery at North Little Rock. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home."6
