Waple Langston

Waple Langston, born September 20th, 1914 in Bay, AR1 was a professional baseball player from 1935-1940.

Biography

Langston died on July 15th, 1975 in Pine Bluff, AR and was buried in Graceland Cemetery in Pine Bluff.2

"Pine Bluff - Waple Langston, aged 60, of Pine Bluff, died Tuesday. He was active in the Babe Ruth and Connie Mack baseball programs here and was former general chairman of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers local. A native of Bay, he graduated from Pine Bluff High School. He played professional baseball and had been employed by Cotton Belt Lines since the 1930s. He retired as an engineer in May. Mr. Langston had helped organize the Babe Ruth World Series tournament to be held here in August and was on the Taylor Field board. He was a member of Carr Memorial United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School. He was past chairman of the Official Board of the church and the Council of Ministries. He was also a Mason. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Jordon Langston; a son, Dr. Lloyd G. Langston of Pine Bluff; a daughter, Mrs. Martin Turner of Tichnor; his stepmother, Mrs. Annie Langston of Pine Bluff; two brothers, Nelson Langston of Pine Bluff and Paul Langston of Pennsylvania, and three sisters, Miss Ann Langston and Mrs. Wayne Boyter, both of Pine Bluff, and Mrs. Elton Townsend of Stuttgart. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Robinson Funeral Chapel here. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery."3
